Gas Fire Pits - Which Gas Bottle Should You Use?

There are many different shapes, sizes and types of LPG (Propane) bottle available, one of the most common questions we get when connecting to propane gas with our Garden Fire Pits is which is the correct style of propane bottle?

Its very important to use the correct Propane bottle with your New Gas Fire Pit or our Gas Fire Pit Burner Kits. You should not be using Patio Gas as these cannot provide the necessary flow rate that our Gas Fire Pits require and also have a different connection style. Some customers have also purchased Butane bottles by mistake too which are NOT suitable as they do not burn as clean as propane and also burns colder and has issues when the outdoor temperature is low. When selecting your Propane bottle for your Fire Pit you should be selecting the screw on style bottle, not the push fit style.

From a size perspective the minimum size we advise is an 11kg bottle, this ensure that you are not regularly having to take trips to the shop to have your propane tank filled up. On average an 11kg Propane bottle will give anywhere between 12-20 hours of continued burn time depending on the flow setting, the higher you have the Gas Fire Pit turned up the more propane it would use. If you were to attempt to use a smaller bottle than the 11kg we advise then it will still function at first, where you run into issues is further down the line as the bottle starts to cool ice will form on the bottom of the bottle externally. This then stops the propane bottle from sending gas to the Gas Fire Pit or Gas Fire Pit Burner Kits and cause it to go out.

When it comes to storing your propane bottle for your Gas Fire Pit there are a few important steps to follow. Following these steps when storing your Gas Fire Pits fuel tank is crucial to ensure that you don’t waste gas or have unexpected issues when using your new Garden Gas Fire Pit. Always store and use your propane bottles in an upright position. As well as keeping them upright you should store propane bottles outside, in a well-ventilated area and away from any windows or doors. NEVER store your propane bottle for your Fire Pit Table in an enclosed tight space such as a shed or garage. Always keep propane bottles away from any source of heat or ignition to avoid risk of fire and never store propane bottles below ground level. If in doubt about any safety advice when it comes to your propane tank, always speak with your local gas supplier to ensure you are keeping safe when using your Gas Fire Pit.
